Hey Ma! I’m on TV! Ma! Ma! Moooom! Moooooom!

We (Me, Laura, Laura’s niece Alshley, Laura’s Mom Mary) went to the Seattle Storm game yesterday at Key Arena. We sat in the 5th row. pretty awesome seats. The storm kicked serious ass. Then i saw us on the 11pm news when they were covering the game. I’m in white, laura’s in white next to me, behind a guy in white 🙂

Click the pic to go to the flickr page, there are a couple other pics in that set.

I wonder if they still give these out today?

iraq

Here’s a link to a scanned version of a little booklet that the US “War Department” gave to soldiers who were being sent to Iraq (i-RAWK, according to the book, where Iran is EE-RAHN) back during WW2.

http://digitallibrary.smu.edu/cul/gir/ww2/pdf/w0025.pdf

Its kind of interesting that for a lot of it you could just search and replace “Hitler” with “Al-Queda” and almost everything would still apply!

I found this from the Wired “Danger Room”, via www.blackfive.net. Blackfive is awesome!

My first REAL constructioning!

Construction? This weekend i did my first real carpentry project ever. I built shelves and drawers for our kitchen pantry. If i wasn’t a huge fan of the New Yankee Workshop i don’t think i would have even known where to start! I never took a shop class in high school, but i did help my dad build some things back in junior high/high school (i tried to get out of that as often as possible though!) I wish i would have paid more attention then! I think i used almost every tool that i own this weekend!

all done!

And you think your wife is a neat freak?

Her Mother's Daughter for sure... You think your wife is a neat freak?

Has yours ever vacuumed the back yard? 🙂

I laughed when i saw her doing it, and i needed to get an “out of context” picture for laughs. She was vacuuming up a larged amount of broken glass that was left after a patio table was inadvertently destroyed when our house was re-roofed. Good times!

Seattle Pimp Po-Po!

Outside the M’s game friday night there was a pimped out charger cop car. Lots of nice stuff, including red and blue alternating underbody LED’s (i don’t think they were neons, nowadays).

Here’s a youtube video we took too.

Who knew that the seattle police department had stuff like this?

pimp police?

Bobble-shelf

bobble-rama

I built my first thing over the last couple weekends. I use the term “built” very loosely, as in this case, “building” meant routing one edge of a piece of oak, painting it, and screwing some brackets into the wall. 🙂

I was originally going to make the brackets, in fact i used the jig saw to make one, but then couldn’t find any keyhole anchor things that were the right size, and while looking for those at home depot, i found metal brackets that match the brushed aluminum style of other stuff in the office.

Having the table saw was nice though, as it gave me a large stable work area to clamp the piece down to route it! So now i have a nice shelf on which to put my growing collection of bobbleheads. 4 Favre’s, 3 Ichiro’s, 1 Cecil Cooper (another on the way!), 1 Yount, 1 Uecker, 1 Sexson, and 1 Dwight Shrute.

The best analysis of the VT-Massacre

After reading so much crap (literally, crap, everywhere) about the massacre, this post at Zen of Design is by far the best thing I’ve read. It has some very good links to videos about Jack Thompson’s anti-videogame craziness too.

…Any time I see anyone blame books, tv, music or video games for a school shooting (and based on the Tech incident, perhaps we should add Microsoft Word to the list), I always feel like people forget what it’s like to be young. You know, back when you lost all perspective. When getting a ‘B’ in Humanities might ruin your life forever, and how you’d never love again after that girl next to you in Chem blew you off in front of her friends. You can’t appreciate that, in ten years, you probably won’t remember her name (although I think it was Erika). When you’re young, the highs are high, and the lows are so low that some kids get fooled into thinking that the Cure is good music…

It sums up just about my entire feeling about these situations, and is far more eloquent than i will ever be here on my blog!

There is a lot more good stuff there, so go read the whole post.

A dichotomy of purchases!

This weekend, I purchased 2 items which are almost the complete opposite of each other. While they are very different items, they have some interesting similarities! Both are going to be a lot of fun, in their own little way!

Item #1 Item #2
It is: Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 A General International Table Saw!
It looks like gh2! General International

For a more detailed table of differences and similarities, follow the jump!

Blogger’s code of conduct?

So there’s a big brouhaha on the intertubes about this whole “Blogger’s Code of Conduct”, as proposed by Tim O’Reilly, et al. Apparently they never learned from the Comics industry…

Comics Code == der ?

At least they aren’t proposing that there’s a single authority that will patrol all these blogs and approve posts/comments. Although who knows, maybe “draft 2” of the code will include that…
